Why Websites Are Built
We all build websites for different reasons. Some of us are bloggers. Some are business owners. Some of us, like myself are just looking to use up our free time with a hobby. No matter what we create our websites for, there is one thing that we would like to do with our creations, make money.
Even if you don’t care about making a full time income from your site, it is still nice to collect on something that you are doing anyways. How much you can make with your website is really dependent on design, traffic, niche, and monetization method chosen.
Design, traffic, and niche are covered on other parts of DIY Website Builder, so here, monetization methods will be what is mainly covered. No, this does not mean you have to be an internet marking guru. In fact, the hard part is already done!
Hard Part Of Making Money With Your Website
I know, you must be asking, “If you haven’t explained anything yet, how is the hard part of making money online already done?” There is a simple answer to that! You already are working on your website! You are on a great “how to” page! You have traffic coming in!
If you have not started working on your site, or you don’t have traffic yet, you need to work on that first. Don’t worry about monetization until you have your basis started! Once you have this, you will be ready to learn how to make money with your page.
Methods Of Monetizing Your Website
Alright, how do you monetize websites and start making an income online? Most people would straight up say advertising or sell your own products. Both of these are great, yes, but that’s just scratching the surface of possibilities.
Let’s start off with advertising, the most popular idea that pops into everyone’s mind. What are you going to advertise? Fortunately, this isn’t something you HAVE to figure out! There are plenty of programs out there that will automatically choose what to advertise on your page, based on the keywords that are prevalent.
The most popular choice for this would be Google Adsense. I will be writing more in depth about Adsense in articles in this section, so I won’t overwhelm you here. That basic idea behind it is that you sign up, install their code on your page, it analyzes your keywords, finds the highest bidder for those keywords, and displays their ad. When a user clicks on the advertisement, Google receives the bid and pays you a percentage of it.
This method of advertisement is often referred to as Pay Per Click (PPC) or Cost Per Click (CPC). Google is not the only company that participates in this type of marketing, so if you choose to go this route, there are many options available to you. I plan on writing about many of them. If you find one that I have not posted about, please let me know! I would love to research it and write up my findings.
Keep in mind, with PPC/CPC, you need to have a great amount of traffic to make a decent amount of money on it. Click through rates are typically fairly low on these ads unless you have a very specialized niche. If you want to try earning more on a smaller amount of traffic, affiliate marketing is another great avenue!
Affiliate advertising is a subject that often confuses people. Reality of it is, keep it simple! There is no need to complicate this method. A lot of companies out there will pay you for referring people to their products and services. You find a product you would like to promote, write an article on it, and post your affiliate link. Done! Now, when one of your website visitors click on the link and makes a purchase, you receive a percentage of that sale! How amazing is that?!
As I have mentioned, there are many choices when it comes to affiliate programs. I have found many of them myself. I plan on reviewing the popular ones, as well as some hidden gems. As always, if you know of some that you haven’t seen here, send them to me! Just because I post it hear, doesn’t mean it is creating competition. We all have different niches that we concentrate on.
Affiliate marketing not for you? How creative are you? Sell your own products! Whether you want to create an e-commerce store or create your own e-book, you keep all the profits from your own products!
Have you considered web based services? What is your niche? Is there something you specialize in with it? Let others know that you are willing to do something for them for a small fee. Say you are a great researcher. People will pay you to write for them! Are you an awesome graphic designer? Offer that!
The possibilities are endless when you are trying to make your website generate income for you. Let’s get the ball rolling and monetize!
